Meet and Greet Alumni - Gianna Zhang and Fazlollah Madani Sani

At a recent Meet and Greet event, ICMT had the pleasure of welcoming back PhD alumni Gianna Zhang and Fazlollah Madani Sani. Both currently employed at SLB, Gianna as a Laboratory Engineer and Fazlollah as a Modeling and Simulation Engineer, they shared their valuable experiences in the field with current students. The event provided a great opportunity for new and returning students to connect with these accomplished professionals and gain insights into the industry.

Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, Provost Elizabeth Sayrs, and Russ College of Engineering & Technology Dean Patrick Fox visited our laboratory. During their visit, they explored ICMT's rich three-decade history, learned about our current projects, and discussed future plans. They also toured the lab floor, where they were introduced to key equipment used in corrosion testing. Our PhD students - Shrirang Deshmukh, Adam Cutright, Ishan Patel, Neda Norooziasl, Kamila Turganova, Zhuldyz Zhigulina, Yi He, and Martin Colahan - presented their diverse research through poster displays. University photographer Eli Burris captured the visit, and we extend our thanks for the photos shared below.

Every spring semester, Ohio University hosts the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo, where ICMT graduate students consistently showcase their research at the Convocation Center. This year's highlights include:

The Expo provides an excellent platform for both undergraduate and graduate students to network, share research, and exchange ideas - a true highlight in OHIO's academic calendar! The presentation of students can be found in the following page: https://ohioopen.library.ohio.edu/studentexpo/2023/chembioeng/

As is customary, ICMT had a strong presence at the AMPP Annual Conference in Denver. The team delivered a total of 18 presentations and displayed 17 posters. Participation spanned various symposia, including Corrosion Control with Inhibition, Progress in Laboratory Testing of Corrosion Inhibitors, Sweet and Sour Corrosion, VCI Applications, Corrosion in Supercritical Systems, Machine Learning, Mechanisms of Localized Corrosion, Refining Industry Corrosion, RIP, and Electrochemical Techniques.

Ohio UniversOhio University's Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology hosted alum Keith George from BP Technology. Mr. George discussed his current job position at BP Technology and focused on his work on off-shore platforms. The engineering problems encountered on off-shore oil rigs are numerous, but Mr. George gave a good description of the key corrosion issues that he has faced as well as some safety concerns that occur both on-shore and off-shore. We at Ohio University Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology are proud of the success of fellow alum Keith George and are grateful for him to come and present “real world” material to us so that we can better assess what job fields are open to us after we graduate.

Mike JoostenMike Joosten from Conoco Phillips visited the Ohio University Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology. Mr. Joosten gave a lecture entitled "Corrosion - A Variety of Shapes and Sizes" in which he discussed the types of corrosion issues that arise in off-shore drilling and showed the students examples of real corrosion issues that he has faced as a corrosion engineer. The presentation also gave us in-sight on how the research we generate as an academic institution goes to help the corrosion issues faced in industry. Mr. Joosten's presentation covered a vast topic of corrosion issues such as general corrosion, pitting corrosion, coatings, galvanic protection, as well as both internal and external corrosion of pipelines.

May 23 , 2006>

Dr. David ShDr. David Shifler from Office of Naval Research, visited the Institute for Corrosion and Multiphase Technology, and gave a lecture to the student members. The title of the lecture is "Factors that influence the performance of high-temperature coatings".

Congratulations to Dezra Hinkson, a Master's student at Ohio University, received a $1000 book scholarship from the NACE bookstore. She was able to purchase 8 books to further her knowledge of corrosion!
