ICMT graduate students Saba Navabzadeh Esmaeely and Thu Tran won first and second
places at Ohio University's Research & Creative Activity Expo on May 3rd. Competing against other graduate students from the Department of Chemical
and Biomolecular Engineering, Saba scored a blue ribbon with her poster on the "Effect of Calcium Ion on the Formation and Protectiveness of Iron
Carbonate Layer in CO2 Corrosion". Thu took a red with her poster on the "Mechanistic Study of Cathodic Reactions in Sweet Corrosion".
(Their posters can be viewed by clicking on the icons.) There were 30 participants from the department, divided into 3 categories, with research
topics relating to biomolecular engineering, electrolysis, adsorption phenomena, spectroscopy, nanostructured materials and supercritical systems,
as well as corrosion. Saba is in the process of completing her MS degree in Chemical Engineering. Thu is pursuing her PhD.
