October 3rd-7th saw the bi-annual Advisory Board meeting for the Water Wetting, Corrosion Center, and Top-of-the-Line Corrosion Joint Industry Projects. As always, it was good to welcome sponsors from Baker Hughes, BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, DNV, ExxonMobil, Shell, and TOTAL; plus many others participated in the meeting online. The main CC-JIP meeting opened with a day-long session on sour corrosion, focusing on corrosion product layer formation and galvanic coupling effects. Sessions on inhibition, including discussion of new molecular modeling initiatives, and sweet corrosion mechanisms followed. Michel Bonis (TOTAL) delivered the meeting’s insightful guest presentation, “Corrosion Prediction for True Assets”, linking much of ICMT’s ongoing research activities to key corrosion issues in the oil and gas industry. ICMT looks forward to next March, and hosting our sponsors for the next set of meetings.
